archives. It is written by Bill Goodman, the author of Compact
Pro. The advantage of this program over Extractor, the other
free Compact Pro decompression utility, is that it is small
enough to run in 512K of memory. Howe ver, if you don't have the
Hierarchical File System (HFS), you will need to install the
HD20 INIT in your System folder. This can usually be obtained
from Macintosh user groups or from on-line services such as
Compuserve.
CptExpand has the same creator type as Compact Pro, which allows
it to automatically open when such an archive is double-clicked
(but it should then only be used if you *don't* use Compact Pro
or Extractor).
There are several ways to operate a Mac with an OS Version which normally it does not support. As follows a few foundational jobs will be described which shoud lead to success.
Note: The author does not claim any responsibility for damage ensuing out of this descriptions. If not explicitly stated the patches have been developed by the author and have been succesfully tried and tested. It is still possible that some programs won't run propperly with a patched OS and loss of data can occur !
Gambas Page describes the methods for installing OS 8.0 and 8.1 on 68030 Macs made with 32 bit clean ROMs.
These Macs have been reported successful with both OS 8.0 and 8.1.
