Yes I know that there are some errors to how everything looks and feel on this simulation. I do however want to congratulate you on bringing back what I miss so much.

I wish I could get my hands on an older model? Anyone know of a place?

Not bad, but inaccurate for an SE

1. The icons at the bottom shouldn't appear before "Welcome to Macintosh"

2. No versions of Netscape will run on an SE because it has a 68000, which doesn't support Color QuickDraw. You could simulate MacWeb or NCSA Mosaic for the same effect.

3. The system folder has the wrong icon and name in the "Aladdin" disk.

4. "Please wait, loading..." shouldn't happen.

5. MacWrite and parts of MacDraw are in German.

6. FreePPP requires a 68020, which the SE doesn't have. You should make a simulation of MacPPP instead, which works on an SE.

7. File should be before View in the Finder menu, and it shouldn't be used as an application selector.

8. What the heck is with that "Aladdin" icon on the desktop? That is not System 7's disk icon.

-----------

Hi Fred, as written in the Intro text "The WebSE offers a simulation of System 7 on a Macintosh SE or MacPlus natural 1 Bit display, with some extensions and some limitations. Do not take this to serious."... Have fun, Oliver

this old Mac simulation is beautifully made! I love these old computers and it's just great to see it put on the internet for everyone to use. Thanks a lot!

...by this site. I have an old Mac IIcx I bought back in '97 or '98 because I wanted a cheap computer I could access the internet with. I only wish I could get the thing to work now. Last time I tried hooking it up to a CRT monitor, it seemed to power up, but I gotta blank screen. I'd love to see if there's a way I could get this bad boy working again -- just to do it. And maybe run a few old "classic" apps.

My first computer was a Classic ][ with a beautifully matching LaCie 1gb hard disk. I remember playing Spelunx, the Manhole and Cosmic Osmo all the time, using Eudora and MacWeb over 56k, and Writenow for word processing. I honestly miss the time when booting up the mac was a multistep process like a model-T, and once it was running, never a spinning beach ball in sight. I only wish that there was more efforts out there to bring back the old software.

Nostalgia

I started on the Mac Classic... I migrated to the Performa 575, then the iMac.

Later in life, I abandoned the Mac for the Windows world. Now I work in Linux (CentOS to be precise) with MWM for a windowing manager. I guess I'm nostalgic for the minimalist olden-days when operating systems didn't get in the way of users.

I look at the old Mac OS and shed a silent tear for an era long since past. Farewell Mac OS 9.x and lower... safe travels!
